LIFE AT GITHIGA

Githiga Academy

Next to the home, is Githiga Children's Academy. An income generating project fully owned by the home.  The school accepts enrollment from other fee-paying children within the community. The school runs on the primary level 8-4-4 system.  Once children graduate from class 8, they are taken to different high schools in the country.

Boarding Facility

Currently, the home has two boarding blocks, one housing the girls and the other boys.  Housing has been a challenge to the home.  Many children are still on the admission waiting list as the home can only accommodate about 75 children.  The home is seeking partners to help build additional boarding facilities.

Farming

Githiga Children's home is in a farming district and therefore has an area of land where they grow vegetables consumed by the children.  The home has a small dairy farming section that provides enough milk for the home and generates organic manure for vegetable farming.  Food for the home is prepared in the new Kitchen facility that is installed with energy saving cookers.

With generous donation from Gathura Investments in Kenya, the school now has its own borehole with sufficient water supply all year round.

Christian Education

Every Sunday, the children attend church service conducted by PCEA Githunguri Presbytery Children Ministry department.

Kirk TV is a regular visitor to the home and children participate in children ministry TV programs.
